Seventeen 1st male group this year to top Melon Top 100
Seventeen continues to set new records with its new album, "Seventeenth Heaven," including a top place on Melon's Top 100.
Pledis Entertainment on Tuesday said the album and its title song, "God of Music," dominated the global music charts following its release at 6 p.m. on Monday.
Among the feats achieved were a No. 1 spot on the nation's biggest music service provider Melon's Top 100 chart with "God of Music." Seventeen became the first boy band this year to grab the top spot on the chart, Pledis said.
"God of Music" marked a successful start overseas as well, debuting atop the iTunes top songs chart in 29 countries on its first day. In Japan, "Seventeenth Heaven" quickly soared to the top of the iTunes top albums chart and K-pop albums chart, and went onto top the nation's biggest music platform Line Music's albums chart.
"Seventeenth Heaven," the 11th EP from the band, also set a new record for K-pop sales. On Monday, it sold 3.28 million copies, tallying the second-highest first-day sales in Korean music. The band's previous album "FML" had set an all-time high first-day sales record of 3.99 million units, becoming the first K-pop album in history to earn the triple million-seller title on its release day.
In preoder sales, "Seventeenth Heaven" outperformed "FML," logging the highest figure to date in K-pop at 5.2 million units.
Debuting in 2015 under Pledis Entertainment, the multinational boy band has reached a new level in its career this year with the massive success of "FML" and its largest concert series "Follow" in Asia.
